My Best Bowling Memory
Bowling is a great sport. It’s a lot of fun, great for any skill level, and can be enjoyed by the whole family. Bowling for me has a lot of great memories. I’ve been bowling for a long time..since I was 8 years old. That was 30 years ago…oh boy. My fondest memory of bowling has to be when my dad and I would go down to our local bowling alley early on Sunday mornings for their ‘Early Bird Special’. I can’t remember how much it cost but it was for unlimited bowling for 2 hours. It was a good deal that’s for sure. I remember our score sheet was usually marked with at least 10 games between the both of us.
Also, back then scores weren’t automatically recorded like they are today. We had to write them in ourselves. But that was part of the fun back then. My dad was the one to actually teach me how to keep score. When you got that strike or spare, you got to hand write that x in the box. I liked to put some flair on my marks so I would fill in the marks to make them stand out more.
So why was this such a great memory for me? Definitely being able to go bowling is reason in itself. But what really made this so memorable was that through bowling, my dad and I got to spend quality time together. This early morning bowling was something that was our ‘father & son’ time. No mom, no younger brother…just him and me.
I’m 38 years old now and I still look back on that season of my life as one of my most happiest and most memorable. I wouldn’t trade that time for anything. Now I am a dad and I hope that when my son gets a bit older, he and I will be able to build memories around bowling just as I did with my dad.
